Some of our best friends from Italy were PCSing from Italy to Alaska and taking a 30 day vacation in Oklahoma where their family is. We decided since it as only a 6 hour drive north, why not see our wonderful friends before they begin their next journey.
Well I think we are the ones who were about to experience a journey!!! It as 100 degrees in Clovis, NM when we left and by the time we got 20 mins outside of Amarillo towards OKC our car started to act funny. Bo thought at first it was the fuel lines. We finally had to pull over across from a truck stop and let the car rest and I had to feed the kids. By this time it was 105 degrees outside. The car did not want to drive for more than 5 mins at a time. So we had a local mechanic look at it and he told us that it was the vapor lock issuse in the fuel lines because of the heat. He said to let the car cool down for about 1-2 hours and then start back down the road. Bo and I were both nervous but at this point we were almost halfway there.
We left Clovis at noon and did not arrive in OKC until 8:30pm. One of our friends posted on FB..."I know you are probably frustrated right now but later you will laugh about this." Maybe not....
We had a great time while in OKC! It was hard leaving the Fitzpatrick family again but we are excited to see them in Alaska. We decided to drive at night since it would be cooler and we would not have to worry about any vapor lock issues. Little did we know, there were bigger problems up ahead.
The ride home was fairly smooth and I was talking to Bo to help keep him awake and as we were in a deep discussion, out of nowhere a huge buck jumped out of the center median grassy area and rammed into the driver side of the car which sling shot his body into the left front of the car which caused him to flip over in front of the car and we dragged him into the right lane since the force of the buck hitting up and the speed at which we were going (80 since the speed limit was 75).

So needless to say the Lord was with us because there were no cars around us which would have been extremely bad considering we were pushed sideways into the right lane. Bo pulled over, Noah was screaming and crying the crash woke him up, it was 1:30am and Bo could barely get his door open.
At this point we were in McClean TX. We were able to drive the car back to a truck stop in Conway, TX which is exactly where stopped at when we were driving to OKC. Bo was able to go inside the truck stop gas station and buy bungy straps and bunggy strapped the hood of the car together so we could continue to drive home.
Mind you this is Bo's 2000 Ford Focus that we bought shortly after arriving back in the states while we waited on our Jeep to arrive from overseas. We drove his car to OKC because it would be much cheaper on gas. We are just thankful that nothing more serious happened than what it did.
